The Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council was awarded a grant in the amount of $13,067 from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive Grants Program. Altogether, the state received 35 eligible applications with requests totaling approximately $2.4 million for integrated solid waste management facilities and projects. Approximately $1.4 million was awarded for 30 projects throughout Nebraska.
The grant program provides funds annually for integrated waste management activities in Nebraska. The funds awarded to the Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council will be used for three Household Hazardous Waste collection events. Properly disposing of approximately 11,000 pounds of household hazardous waste will help keep these hazardous materials out of landfills, road ditches, and from being burned while assisting citizens in cleaning up properties. The events will be held this fall. Watch for site specific information to come.
The RC&D Council is to be commended for their continued efforts to improve Nebraska’s environment through responsible solid waste management activities.
